Added comment "With the independence debate in Scotland at the moment, we're always promised a 'Scandinavian-like' public service, but they have massive taxes compared to us. If we want it good, we'll have to pay." on motion David Cameron should introduce tax cuts before the end of the decade

Added comment "When I hear about "cutting red tape" & "reducing bureaucracy" it's really meaning deregulation in most cases. Deregulation leads to abuses of the capitalist mechanisms which got us into the current economic crisis. I'd call for tighter regulation of certain industries - especially financial services & those industries that pollute. e.g. Cutting green taxes is lunacy, as is their mis-targetting & mis-allocation!" on motion David Cameron should introduce tax cuts before the end of the decade

Added comment "I dread to think that extending investment & research into burning more fossil fuels will take funding & effort away from renewables. If the government was really worried about climate change (as they should be) rather than tax revenue & helping their mates, they'd be just as enthusiastic for renewables research as they are with fracking. In addition, the promises are way overblown: "loads of cheap energy for ages" hasn't turned out to be the case - even in the USA where the size & geography makes it much more suitable for exploitation than the UK." on motion STOP FRACKING IN THE UK !

Added comment "Access to opportunity should be what we strive for. Unfortunately, Boris & his ilk equate 'success' with 'getting extremely rich while screwing people over', so I'd be very suspicious of his approach." on motion Boris Johnson is right, our education system needs to be designed so the most talented can prosper

Added comment "I oppose because although I think the current setup is wrong, and the drive by some European politicians to force integration even closer are deluded, a reformed European Union would still be better than not being a part of it. I'd argue that the European Common Market was the best model and we're more likely to reform the current system from within rather than as a noisy bystander." on motion We should leave the European Union

Unfortunately this ain't gonna happen in the current climate." on motion World leaders should push for a global 10% reduction in defence spending

Added comment "With climate change making this kind of thing more likely (compared to the "once in a hundred years" that we have been told in the past), we need to have a big rethink about how we protect our conurbations, agricultural land & countryside from these disasters. Something has to give & would suggest that with flooding, we need to seriously look at what we're doing in the uplands as many experts are saying that stripping trees & peat, draining land & 'improving' the uplands is exacerbating or even causing these major problems downstream. Dredging is a very small part of the strategy and only works in certain places (it should have been done in the levels, but even if it had, there still would have been floods with this level of inundation). Time to look at how we encourage upland farming through the CAP to resist the environmental damage that is currently rewarded." on motion That the dredging of Somerset should have started before today
